Dan Goldin

NASA's ninth and longest-serving Administrator; entrepreneur and technologist across space, national security, and advanced technology.

Daniel Goldin served as NASA's ninth and longest-tenured administrator, leading the agency from April 1, 1992, to November 17, 2001. Appointed by President George H. W. Bush, he continued in the role under Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, demonstrating bipartisan confidence in his leadership. Goldin is widely recognized as an entrepreneur and technologist with a career spanning multiple advanced fields, including space science, aeronautics, national security, semiconductors, and artificial intelligence. He later founded Cold Canyon AI, an innovation advisory firm.

Goldin earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the City College of New York in 1962, the same year he began his career at NASA's Glenn Research Center in Cleveland, Ohio. There, he worked on electric propulsion systems aimed at enabling human interplanetary travel. After five years, he left NASA to join TRW Space and Technology Group in California.

During his 25-year tenure at TRW, Goldin rose to become Vice President and General Manager. Much of his work involved classified military and intelligence space programs, contributing to national security and advanced space technologies. His diverse experience helped shape his influential leadership at NASA.
