
Larry Lagin has over 40 years of experience as a scientist, engineer, and project manager in both laboratory and industrial settings. He has led engineering teams on projects for the U.S. Navy and Department of Energy, with expertise spanning nuclear fusion, control systems, AI/ML, applied physics, and real-time computing. He began his career at Grumman Aerospace in Advanced Development and Research, and later played key roles on the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR) project at Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory (PPPL), and then the National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), where he was responsible for Control and Information Systems.
Larry holds a BS in Applied Physics (Columbia), an MA in Physics (Stony Brook), an MS in Computer Science (Drexel), and a Post-baccalaureate Certificate in Visual Arts (UC Berkeley). While at LLNL, he received 15 Laboratory Director, Computations, and NIF Directorate Awards and one R&D 100 award. He is the author of over 70 technical papers, served on the International Advisory Committee for ICALEPCS, and chaired the 8th IAEA Technical Meeting on Control, Data Acquisition, and Remote Participation for Fusion Research.
